When it comes to music, make sure to use a soundfont that's not the default one on Windows. Unfortunately, there is no release date yet for System Shock 2: Enhanced Edition, but those who preordered the System Shock remake will receive the updated version for free at launch.

Personally, I never considered System Shock a horror game, but it's one of the best games I've ever played, regardless of genre. The enhanced edition retains the original gameplay, level designs, and graphics engine, with higher fidelity textures and modern display options, plus integrated mod support and VR compatibility.

Meanwhile, Nightdive Studios is working on System Shock 2: Enhanced Edition, an upgraded PC port of the 1999 sequel. The System Shock remake will also launch for PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, and Xbox One, but console versions won't be available until a later, currently unannounced date.
